Opinel is a recognized French knife brand that has been known since 1890 for its classic, folding pocket knives of high quality. Among other things, Opinel knives are known for categorizing their knives by size to ensure you get a knife that fits perfectly in your hand. The Opinel folding knife is characterized by a distinctive wooden handle, often made of beechwood, and a sturdy blade of stainless steel or carbon steel. Additionally, Opinel knives are also available as shaving tools and kitchen knives – however, we do not have those in stock.
Opinel was founded in 1890 by Joseph Opinel in the French region of Savoie. Joseph had learned blacksmithing from his father and grandfather, and in his spare time, he began making simple, folding knives for farmers and craftsmen. Joseph Opinel wanted to produce his knives in different sizes to fit various hand sizes or be used for different tasks. The knives quickly grew in popularity, and in 1955 Opinel introduced the now-famous Virobloc locking system, which increased safety during use.
