Waxed Canvas – Durable Outdoor Gear in Natural and Robust Material
Perfect for outdoor life, bushcraft, and nature lovers
Waxed canvas has for decades been one of the preferred materials when it comes to good and solid gear for outdoor activities and outdoor life. We ourselves really enjoy using gear made of canvas and waxed canvas because it has that raw, natural feel and at the same time just works – whether it’s raining, windy, or the sun is blazing. It is durable, weather-resistant, and ages beautifully – perfect for camping, bushcraft, foraging trips, camp life, and everything in between.
Why choose products in waxed canvas?
Canvas has been used for generations – and for good reason. When treated with wax, it becomes water-repellent, breathable, and extremely durable. You get a material that doesn’t give up, even after many trips in the forest, by the fire, or in rain and wind. It just gets better with time.
We prefer canvas over plastic and synthetic materials – not only because it lasts longer, but also because it is more sustainable. And it’s just great to use gear that looks better and more vibrant with every trip it has been on.
Some of our own favorites in waxed canvas
Among our most popular – and personal favorites – products in waxed canvas you will find:
-
Waxed canvas tarp – use as a windbreak, tarp, or to build a simple and effective shelter.
-
Foraging bag in waxed canvas – perfect for collecting firewood, herbs, plants, mushrooms, or other items from nature.
-
Waxed canvas bag – practical for keeping your gear, cooking equipment, or clothes organized and dry.
We ourselves use the waxed canvas tarp whenever we get the chance. It provides exactly the protection we need when we are out in nature – and we love how it develops patina and character over time. Rain and wear leave marks, but without damaging anything – on the contrary, it just makes it better.
Maintaining waxed canvas
Waxed canvas is a unique natural material with both function and appearance that fits perfectly with outdoor life. But it also deserves a little care if you want it to last a long time – and you do.
Here’s how we take care of our canvas gear:
-
Cleaning: Wipe off dirt and soil with a damp cloth or soft brush. Avoid washing machines and soap – it damages the wax treatment.
-
Re-treatment: When the surface no longer repels water, we apply our favorite wax for canvas - you can find yours here
-
Applying wax: We warm the wax slightly with a hairdryer and massage it into the fabric – especially in seams and folds where wear is greatest.
-
Storage: Dry and ventilated – not in a damp basement or sealed plastic bag.
A sustainable choice with long lifespan
When you choose gear in waxed canvas, you say yes to equipment that lasts. And no thanks to single-use plastic and quick fixes. Instead of throwing away and buying new, you can maintain and reuse – which is better for both nature and your wallet.
Canvas is made from cotton, a natural and biodegradable material that does not leave microplastics in the forest floor. When we use and care for our canvas gear, we do it thoughtfully – for us, outdoor life is also about giving back to nature, not just taking from it.
Silent and discreet material – just as it should be in nature
Something we personally love about waxed canvas is how quiet it is. It doesn’t rustle, it doesn’t crackle – it’s almost silent. When we move through the forest, alone or in a group, it means a lot that our gear doesn’t make unnecessary noise. It creates calm and lets us get closer to wildlife and surroundings – and it just fits well with the way we want to be in nature.
Canvas in natural, muted colors also makes it easy to blend in with the surroundings – especially if you hunt, forage, or just want to avoid standing out.
Outdoor gear to take with you – again and again
At Survivalstore.dk, we only select canvas products we would take with us on a trip ourselves. It’s functional, durable, and we love the feeling of using gear that works – and that becomes a permanent part of your outdoor life for many years to come.
We hope you will love waxed canvas as much as we do.
Have a great trip out in the wild!
