Carabiners and snap hooks are incredibly simple yet extremely useful technologies that can be practical in a wide range of situations. Even if you are not a professional climber, you can easily find use for a good snap hook as part of your gear or in other places where the small carabiners can come in handy. Here in the webshop, you will find several different carabiners and snap hooks made from various materials, with different breaking strengths and for different purposes. So if you need a snap hook to attach your water bottle or kuksa to your backpack or belt, or if you are looking for a carabiner to integrate as part of your MOLLE system, you have come to the right place!
Different types of carabiners and snap hooks for different purposes
Carabiners and snap hooks come with different locking mechanisms, each better suited for various activities. The "classic" carabiner with a simple spring-loaded gate is great for quickly attaching gear to, for example, the outside of your bag or your belt—or wherever you need to secure something. This could be a water bottle, knife, sandals, wet clothes, or other items you don’t want to pack inside your backpack. Carabiners are also often used for hanging hammocks, where they contribute to an easy and quick setup of your hanging sleeping spot.
The screw-lock carabiner, which has a threaded screw lock, also features a spring-loaded gate like the classic snap hook, but the screw lock that screws over the gate provides extra security. This makes it especially suitable for climbing, where the additional security is essential. If you need a carabiner for climbing, it is important to check whether the carabiner is designed for climbing or not. The carabiner’s material and breaking strength must meet the high demands placed on it during climbing and similar activities.
The different designs of snap hooks
The various designs of snap hooks and carabiners are also useful for all kinds of different purposes. There is the classic D-ring, such as this one, which is very versatile and useful for quickly securing gear. If you have a MOLLE system on your backpack or other equipment, this snap hook from Mil-Tec can be integrated as part of your loadout, giving you a great way to attach gear to the carabiner. It can also be attached to your belt using the Velcro closure. Other carabiners have, for example, two sections, which is useful if you need to secure something inside the carabiner. This way, you ensure that the carabiner always stays properly closed and that the strongest part of the carabiner handles the heavy load, so you don’t have to worry about the carabiner opening during use.
A snap hook is therefore not "just" a snap hook. They come in many different designs and materials, and when you are looking for your new carabiner or snap hook, it is primarily about what you need it for.
