Mil-Tec Ildstål Sæt

Mil-tec fire steel set for bushcraft and survival trainingThere are many ways to make fire, and I have previously written and told you about some of the methods. Both here in the newsletter and on the blog. There are the easy methods, the difficult ones, and the fun ones in between. Today, we’ll look at one of the fun ones.

German Mil-Tec has developed this small, smart, and very affordable fire steel set, which has several uses. The set contains 4 items:

  • Fire steel
  • 2x tinder blocks
  • Cotton
  • Smart metal box

Straight out of the box, you can make fire using the fire steel and either the tinder blocks or the cotton. It’s easy, practical, and quickly packed away again.

Afterwards, you end up with a fun little bushcraft gadget. You need to make a small hole in the top of the metal box and put in, among other things, small pieces of cloth, wooden sticks or even tinder fungus. Throw the box with contents into the fire, hole facing up, for about 10 minutes.

Now you have super energy-rich, charred material that can act as tinder blocks the next time you need to make a fire. It’s not just smart, it’s also really fun to make your own fire-starting charcoal this way.

I have posted a short video showing you this in practice on the blog >> here <<.

Bonus info if you have kids on the trip; Take small sticks about the size of a pinky finger. Put them in the box and light the fire. You are now making "charcoal for drawing." Take a piece of wood about the thickness of a leg bone, split it, and straighten it out. Now you have a flat surface that is perfect for drawing on.

The kids will love you!

Above the oven, I made charcoal in an old tin. For only 69 kroner, you can start your own project, and you also get a fire steel and other goodies.
