The pot can hold 1.1 liters, corresponding to about 9 cups of coffee. Down in the pot there is a percolator insert. You can choose to use it and brew your coffee Italian style, oryou can take it out and make real Cowboy coffee.
The procedure for the 2 variants can be found here:
Campfire coffee with percolator:
1# Fill the desired amount of water into the pot (See note*)
2# Put ground coffee in the percolator, preferably ground a little coarsely. Press it lightly into the ‘filter’/percolator.
Don’t put too much coffee in, it can bubble up when the hot water runs through, and thus grounds can get into the coffee, which is not the intention when using a percolator, as opposed to making traditional 'Cowboy Coffee’ - the recipe for this type of coffee is found further down.
3# The percolator is placed into the pot WHEN the water boils, not before.
Make sure there are good embers/heat under the pot, and that it stands fairly level.
The water must come up through the tube in the middle, and in this way run down over the coffee, this can easily be seen in the glass top on the lid.
4# You can monitor the strength of the coffee by looking at the water coming up through the tube - the darker, the stronger.
For us, 6 - 10 minutes is about right, depending on how many cups we make.
When it has the strength you want, take the pot off, and the coffee is ready.
Hold the lid when pouring from the pot if the percolator is still in the pot, and always use heat-resistant gloves, the pot gets very hot!
Enjoy the coffee and let calmness settle in.
Note * - We think the pot is best suited for between 3 - 9 cups of coffee.
If you look inside the pot, there are marks showing how much water is needed for the desired number of cups.
This model is best suited for a maximum of 7 cups.
Cowboy coffee:
1#Pour the amount of water into the pot that you want to make coffee from.
2#Now add coffee so the entire surface is covered with coffee and preferably a little extra. If the coffee is too strong, you can always dilute it. If the coffee is too weak, just try again. It always takes more coffee than what you normally use at home on the machine.
3#Now the water and coffee must be brought to a boil. Then you time 1 minute while it boils vigorously.
4#The coffee has now been boiling at full blast for one minute and now you take the coffee off the heat.
5#Pour a little cold water into the coffee from about 30 centimeters high, preferably so it splashes a bit on the surface. When you do this, a choke effect is created in the water and the grounds settle.
