Fatwood - From Danish forest - Hand-processed.

With a good piece of fatwood in your pocket, it’s easy for you to start a fire with your firesteel.
Fatwood is simply a piece of resin-saturated pine wood that, due to its content of natural vegetable turpentine, is easy to ignite.

Survivalstore’s fatwood comes from our own forest.

We carefully harvest dead branches from our pine trees and split them so they are easy for you to use.

We hand-process all our fatwood ourselves.
We harvest it in our own forest, right where we also live and work.
This means your fatwood has NOT been transported over long distances, it has NOT been harvested from a forest where the forest’s wellbeing was ignored, and it is NOT machine-processed.

In return, you receive a piece of raw fatwood, meaning it is neither debarked nor has the sapwood been removed. So there will be parts of the fatwood you receive that are not saturated with resin.
You might wonder why?
Because that’s how it naturally is when you find fatwood in nature.

No fertilizer or pesticides are used in our forest, and it is allowed to take care of itself as much as possible, and then we harvest what we need and what the forest is ready to give.
It may sound crazy, but you develop a very special warm connection to such a place, and all the life there, which is why we do what we can to take good care of it.

How do I use fatwood?

You only need a few shavings from your fatwood.
So one piece will last you a long time.

You can either carve small shavings with your knife, or if it has a flat back, scrape off some 'fluff'. 
You gather your small fatwood shavings in a pile and light them with your firesteel - you can see how in our video below.
When the shavings catch fire, and they do quickly, you should have some dry small twigs, dry grass, or similar ready for the fire to catch, because as mentioned, you only use it to start the fire.

Since our fatwood is not machine-processed or cultivated for the purpose, it comes in many different sizes and variations.

We have made 2 versions, large and small, and we will choose a piece that fits what you want.

You will only receive 1 piece of fatwood, but of course you are welcome to buy more, though as mentioned, one piece goes a long way.
