Softshell clothing often absorbs water and has poor breathability due to dirt. When your clothes get dirty, they lose many of the qualities that make softshell such a popular material in outdoor wear. When the outer fabric absorbs water, which often happens when the clothing is dirty or in damp conditions where it becomes sweaty and wet inside, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability.

How to use Nikwax Waterproofing Agent:
First, wash and clean the garment. We recommend using Nikwax Tech Wash, which effectively and gently cleans your clothes and removes dirt and impurities. Regular detergents leave a thin water-absorbing film that prevents the garment’s DWR (Durable Water Repellent) from working optimally. Therefore, you should use a technical detergent to wash your technical clothing.
Tip: The first few times, it’s often enough just to wash the garment thoroughly.
Once the softshell clothing is washed and clean, leave it in the washing machine and do the following to re-waterproof the garment:
- Remove any soap residue from the detergent drawer
- You may put a maximum of two garments in the machine at a time
- Use 100 ml Softshell Proof Wash-in per garment
- Wash at 30 degrees and spin at low speed
