Description

Pocket-sized Firesteel from Cuma Gear.

Here you get a small, sleek, and powerful firesteel from Cuma Gear.

From the start, Cuma Gear has specialized in producing the best and coolest firesteels, and this new addition is no exception.

This firesteel is 10 cm long and weighs 70 g.
There is enough material here for many, many hundreds of fire starts.

You can easily create a shower of sparks with this firesteel, but if you prefer a larger version, then one of these is what you need:

New striker - New model

The brand new feature of this model is the striker, the piece you scrape against the firesteel.
First of all, the striker fits over the firesteel, meaning it doesn’t 'hang loose' when you carry it, but you can place it close to the firesteel and wrap the cord around it, keeping everything together.

When you want to start a fire with your firesteel, you begin by scraping some material off the firesteel so it falls onto what you want to ignite. You can see how in the video below, although it shows a different firesteel.
It is almost impossible to ignite small twigs or your firewood directly with a firesteel.
You need something flammable that the sparks can catch on first, such as birch bark, fatwood, dry grass, tinder fungus, or similar.
You can see in our video below how to collect your own fatwood.

First time using your firesteel

The first time you use your firesteel, you need to scrape off some of the black coating. It’s there to protect the firesteel and give it the black look.
You can scrape it off either with the striker or with a piece of sandpaper.
You definitely don’t need to remove it from the entire firesteel, just start with the area you will use first.

Fatwood & Firesteel

One of the great things to bring on a trip, besides a good firesteel of course, is fatwood. Simply put, it is resin-saturated pine wood, which makes it extra easy to start a fire, and you can easily find your own here in our Danish nature.
