Your knife is only valuable if it can cut. Keeping it sharp doesn’t have to be complicated with a knife sharpening set like this.

You control the knife’s angle with a sharpening set

As shown in the pictures, you place your knife in the holder. Then you choose the "coarseness" you want to start with and gradually work your way to a razor-sharp knife. For regular edge maintenance, you should choose the finest grit in this sharpening set. If you have chipped your knife (made nicks in it), remove them first with the coarse grit. You should never use a coarser stone than necessary.

Set the knife’s angle

Once you have placed the knife in the holder, visually align and adjust the long metal rods to match the angle the knife already has or the angle you want to change it to. Then you can begin sharpening.

Tip for the final finesse when you’re done with the sharpening set

When your knife is sharpened and you hold it up to the light, you may see the edge tilt slightly to one side. This is a sign that you are well on your way to a perfect sharpening. The final edge you need to refine by stropping. You do this using an old leather belt. Alternatively, and what most people do, is to start using the knife. If you cut into a piece of wood and carve a little, you can also finish it that way.

#360 is the coarsest and for minor knife damage
#600 medium
#800 fine
#1000 very fine for finishing or maintaining a sharp knife.
