A headlamp can sometimes be too harsh and it definitely kills the coziness when you’re sitting by the campfire wanting a quiet moment. Even at maximum brightness, the lantern is not disturbing in any way, and you can turn the flame down so much that the light is barely visible anymore.

Personal experience with the bat lantern
In my world, the two bat lanterns are an essential part of my trips. If there’s room for them, they come along—every time! Originally, I got two as Christmas gifts, one from my brother and one from my mother. They immediately asked if one should be exchanged, but I had no doubt. The two were meant to stay together and follow me everywhere, forever. I only use my headlamp when I need strong work light; otherwise, I let the campfire and the two kerosene lanterns do the job for me.
