Description
Mora 164 spoon carving knife, for when you want to make wooden spoons, with leather sheath.
Here in the shop, we love making our own spoons. Because it’s both fun and rewarding to carve a spoon, as long as you have a proper spoon knife. And the Mora 164 with leather sheath handles the task well. It’s the latest model from Morakniv. As a new feature, the sharp tip has been removed, the blade profile has been changed, and a leather sheath has been added.
It’s that easy to carve your own spoons
It’s both relaxing and healthy for your mind and hands to do something other than staring at your phone. Because once you’re fully engaged in carving, it’s as if the universe stops.
To carve a spoon, you need a piece of green wood. We recommend this because dry wood is much harder and more difficult to carve. Practice with different types of wood, as there is a big difference in difficulty and the final visual result.
Then carve the spoon’s “rough shape” with an axe. It would take too long to carve all the way from the bark to where the spoon starts to take shape.
Once you’ve carved the rough shape, you’ll need a pencil. Use it to draw the spoon’s design—from above, from the side, and along the edge of the bowl. Then just get started.
Tips: I recommend searching on YouTube for “How to sharpen a spoonknife” for instructions on sharpening and maintaining your new spoon knife. Mora does not deliver the sharpest knives straight from the factory. That would increase the product’s cost, and sooner or later you’ll need to sharpen it anyway. It’s easy to maintain, so start by learning how to properly sharpen a Mora 164 spoon knife with leather sheath.
