Description
Fire pan Ø46 from Stabilotherm with 2 handles - Forest pan with foldable handles.
The first time I saw this fire pan, I was sold.
Maybe I’m not the hardest person in the world to impress, because I love good campfire gear, especially if it’s a bit different from the traditional kind, and that’s exactly the case with this fire pan from Stabilotherm.
First of all, the fire pan is large, has high sides, and handles on both sides, which means you have even more uses for this fire pan.
You can easily cook for many people on it, you can cook everything from sausages, steaks, vegetables, etc., all at once without needing multiple fire pans,
But you can also try making paella, a giant omelet, stews, risotto, and more—the high sides give you extra possibilities.
The fire pan, or forest pan as Stabilotherm also calls it, is made of carbon steel, and you’ll be happy about that.
The high carbon content in the steel makes it extra heat stable, giving you a better fire pan for cooking.
Here you get the effective heat you know from cast iron pans, but in a much lighter version.
Since the fire pan is made of carbon steel, you should be careful not to cool it down too quickly, meaning don’t place it directly in the snow when it’s smoking hot, as this can cause it to warp or even collapse, which of course you want to avoid.
Before you use this large fire pan for the first time, it needs to be prepared.
You do this by rubbing it with a thin layer of oil and heating it well so the oil burns off.
Wipe it off, and then it’s ready for first use, where you start as you normally would.
After you’ve used your fire pan, clean it thoroughly, preferably with as little soap as possible on the cooking surface. Make sure it’s completely dry, then rub it with a very thin layer of oil, and it will stay nice for many years.
And as Stabilotherm themselves say; the more you use the fire pan, the better it gets.
Did I mention you can use it both over fire and gas?
Don’t worry, what I didn’t mention here, Stabilotherm explains when you receive the fire pan; a nice description of everything is included on the box.
Enjoy!
